I enjoyed working with all of the people. The event was well organized and run smoothly. I now have the documents and understand the process for helping others create their basic estate documents.
I had some interesting jurisdiction issues with a name change for a child in India that is a resident of Benton County.
I also figured out how and wrote a Declaration of Renunciation for a trustee regarding a trust.
Then there was an issue about how to communicate and collect expenses for a child when there is a permanent protection order against the co-parent. Apparently there is no established way to do this.
Those were 3/6 issues I took care of in the 2 hours I was there. I always learn so much.
Meeting with sheriffs at the Washington County Detention Center and took a tour to see where we will be conducting interviews for our project.
Today I helped several people. One of them did not speak any English and I had to do all of the interviewing in Spanish. Then I had to create an Answer to the Complaint for him in English while asking him questions in Spanish. This was a challenge, but an excellent experience. Prof. Prettyman said I did pretty well and made his Spanish look good:). He helped me explain how to Serve it on the opposing counsel. I definitely need to take some time to learn vocabulary with legal topics in Spanish.
I was able to go to a local elementary school and help interpret for parents who do not speak English about their children's performance in school.
