Today I did all the paperwork for an adoption of a minor and then a different case that was an adoption of an adult. Last week I happened to have an adoption too. I have done emergency guardian ships and regular guardianships, but the adoption scenarios usually are during a less traumatic time in the clients life. I enjoyed helping such excited people with such a positive legal process.
I used Spanish with 2 of the 6 people I helped today. I am getting better at interviewing in Spanish while I do the documents in English. At the same time, Lisa, the attorney next to me, was helping a man that could not hear or speak. The three of us helped over 25 people this morning.
Today I helped several people. One of them did not speak any English and I had to do all of the interviewing in Spanish. Then I had to create an Answer to the Complaint for him in English while asking him questions in Spanish. This was a challenge, but an excellent experience. Prof. Prettyman said I did pretty well and made his Spanish look good:). He helped me explain how to Serve it on the opposing counsel. I definitely need to take some time to learn vocabulary with legal topics in Spanish.
This morning I saw 6 different people. I did the paperwork for the entire process of guardianship for 3 children to live with their grandparents. I also completed an answer to a Complaint from a credit company and another answer to a Complaint from a landlord to a tenant.
