I went to JO Kelly Middle School to volunteer with the Dream BIG program. It was their "graduation" from the program, so I helped them with their set-up, passing out food, and leading the different games they played. It is always a joy to see the increase in confidence and the growth the girls experience throughout the year!

I attended the virtual lecture for spanish learners that Saturday morning. I learned about what teachers should consider when planning curriculum for mixed classrooms (classrooms that contain both native speakers and students learning spanish as a second language). The presentation was very interesting, and something I have discussed a number of times in class and other volunteer groups since!
I worked with students at Walker Elementary in the English Literacy Program. I was able to translate math homework for one student, and for the remainder of my time I worked with Ms. Etchison. I was able to observe curriculum designed for english as a secondary language.

I volunteered with the VAC's program Dream BIG, a program that seeks to empower young women in the NWA community. They partner with JO Kelly Middle School in Springdale to offer year-long mentorship relationships. At this Brave Girl Session, I facilitated discssions surrounding confidence and heard from other young women on their experiences with self-confidence and self-care. These topics are extremely important to adress in the Latina community, as women can often face high expectations from families regarding their behavior and appearance.
I volunteered at the Walker Elementary ROAR afterschool program. I assisted the teachers by helping monitor students and playing games with them.
