    Honors College Path Program 2023-2024

April 11, from 5:30 pm - 7 pm I volunteered at the RSO Awards Banquet with SOOIE. Throughout the ceremony I took pictures of the winners with my camera. When the banquet awards portion was finished, I took pictures of the events social portion, which involved casino themed games. Overall I enjoyed meeting many outstanding award winners, and I plan on volunteering with SOOIE more next semester!

Voting is one of the most important parts of being a citizen, and during the Fall 2022 semester I finally decided to register to vote. I had put off this important civil responsibility for so long because I expected the process to be long, tedious and complicated. I expected to have to find the closest place to pick up a form in-person, which would conflict with my busy school schedule, and take hours to fill out multiple forms. However, it was actually very easy. I started by researching the different ways that I could register. I found out that there are many! You can register in-person at your local election office, DMV, or other designated location. To register in-person, you will need to bring a valid form of identification and proof of residence, such as a driver's license or utility bill. You can register online, which will require your full name, date of birth, residential address, and social security number. You can even register through the mail by requesting a registration form be mailed to you, or by printing off the form yourself.

The option I chose was to request one be sent to me via mail. I waited about two weeks before receiving mine. Actually filling out my registration form took little time as well. It was definitely not a short form, but the information was very simple and took little time to think about since they are mostly facts about yourself. I did, however, need to research and make sure that I was confident in which political party I wanted to support, as they asked this on the form. After filling out the form, I had to go to the post office and mail it. Which took longer than filling out the form, since I had to wait in line and buy a stamp. Overall, the process was not difficult and was very rewarding!

On November 15th I attended the Zoom Honors Event, Pro Tips: Managing Your Time and Calendar for 30 minutes starting at 3 and ending at 3:30 pm. John Treat, director of interdisciplinary and curricular learning of the Honors College Futures Hub hosted this event. During this event John Treat spoke on how to "take control of the semester by managing your calendar and assignments." Recently my assignments had felt overwhelming, and the things he suggested really sound like they will help. Particularly, I have begun making a more strict assignment calendar that I follow regularly!

On October 22nd, I enjoyed a fun opportunity at the Fayetteville Public Library. They hosted a Blindfolded dinner party where guests were blindfolded during their meal. At the end of this meal, they were given a menu of what they ate. At this event, I helped direct guests to the correct area of the Library where the event was being held. Additionally, I assisted during the food serving process, as well as cleaned up afterward.
