I enjoyed this volunteer experience. I arrived at the Union fountain at 8 am on Wednesday to meet up with the rest of the group. My group was assigned the area of buildings including the library and Old Main to look for birds that have collided into the windows. I thought it was a good research idea to raise awareness about the amount of bird mortality on campuses due to window collision.
Planning and Mapping Zoom- I attended the Honor's College zoom meeting about planning and mapping my classes for the upcoming years. Dr. John Treat taught us the importance of weighing our options when it comes to choosing majors and minors and how we should not set our focus too small, but we also should not overwhelm ourselves with options that are too narrow. He showed us how to navigate the degree audit and use the planning feature on it. This was a very helpful zoom meeting and it got me prepared to plan out my future college experience.
Path Interview Weekend: Interview Room (Outside)- I arrived at Gearhart at 8:30 A.M. to give people name-tags that did not have them and guide the parents to go to a different room to attend the parent meetings. When the interviews began, I sat outside one of the interview rooms to wait with people that are about to get interviewed and encouraged them/ calmed their nerves before they entered the room. I stayed until just after lunch. I really enjoyed this experience and the opportunity to get to know the prospective Path students, they were great!
Path Interview Weekend Game Night- I attended the Path Game Night in Gearhart from 7:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. to meet the new applicants for the Path Program. It was a lot of fun to meet all of the candidates for the upcoming cohort and play games together, they all seemed like great people!
Loving Choices Pregnancy Center- This was a great volunteer experience! I arrived at St. Thomas at 9 A.M. and our group headed towards a storage unit to load boxes of diapers into a truck. We then transported the diapers to the Loving Choices Pregnancy Center and organized the boxes by size. We ended up making two trips, but finished at 12 A.M. During this event, I learned about the center, all of their services for women, and their plans to grow.
Honor's College Recess: National Toast Day- I attended the recess in Gearhart to celebrate National Toast Day where I made toast and talked other students in the Honor's College.
Attended the Honors College Induction and Honors College Recess during the Path intercession.
